In January 2025, Metrc announced it had contracted with the US Virgin Islands as the territory’s track-and-trace program system to support the regulation of the legal medical and adult-use cannabis markets.
Metrc will host three in-person information sessions aiming to support the transition to the track-and-trace system before July.

In an April 15, 2025, press release (1), Metrc, a cannabis regulatory technology system provider, announced it would be hosting several in-person events for cannabis businesses licensees of all types as part of a multi-phase onboarding process. These “roadshows” are intended to provide information and live Q&A for participants as the state transitions to Metrc’s track-and-trace record system, which will take place by the end of June 2025.
As described on its website, with this platform (2), “licensed users upload and report every action impacting the status of a plant or the creation of cannabis-based products. When plants are harvested and packaged or combined with other plants in the production of oils, edibles, or concentrates, the origin, testing results, handling, and chain-of-custody information is visible and traceable by regulators.”
The information sessions will address how to set up the system and explain best practices for operation.
Licensees can register for the free events through the links on Metrc’s website. The locations are listed in the press release as follows:

Credentialing for all licensees will be open on April 25. All licensees will also have access to the new Metrc Retail ID, which provides the option to create QR codes for consumers to access product information and functions as an inventory identifier.
To support minority communities, Metrc also partnered with Minority Cannabis Business Association (MCBA) to host track-and-trace and regulatory compliance educational sessions, and also with Minorities for Medical Marijuana (M4MM) to help educate patients.
In February 2025, Metrc announced (3) it had extended its contract with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as the state’s track-and-trace record system, also working together with the Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) of Massachusetts as the state began adult-use cannabis regulation.
