After serving their country, where do veterans find support once they’re home? Even after a tour of duty ends, the battle may be just beginning. Wounds, both visible and unseen, can make returning to civilian life a new struggle, especially with limited treatment options. However, as Canadian veteran, founder of Marijuana for Trauma, and cannabis advocate Fabian Henry explains, veterans need not struggle alone. After finding relief in cannabis to treat his own PTSD, Henry set out to help ensure no other veterans feel desperate and abandoned. Using his own path to healing as an example, Henry pushed back against the stigma around cannabis and encourages it as a therapy. In this interview, he shares how he brings veterans together into the difficult but beneficial process of holistic healing with cannabis as a catalyst.

Bipartisan legislation was recently reintroduced to remove barriers preventing veterans accessing medical cannabis as recommended by health care providers at the VA.

If passed into law, SB 1466 would reduce cost of renewing a medical cannabis card in Arizona, among other changes. The bill passed the senate with bipartisan approval 24 to 6 on March 2, 2023 (1).

On September 7th, 2022, the Cannabis Center of Excellence (CCOE), Undoo, LLC, and Patriots Helping Vets launched a new national research project for US military veterans to study the efficacy of three products that address the after-effects of cannabis usage.

On July 11, 2022, the Cannabis Center of Excellence (CCOE), Gibby’s Garden, Patriots Helping Vets, Tetragram, and several retailers united to study veteran access to medical cannabis. The research study will reportedly request feedback from 450 veterans to gather their firsthand experiences with access, products, and the impact on health.
