The New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) announced in a recent press release, that the organization was launching a “Higher Education” statewide campaign aimed at providing New York consumers with “evidence-based” cannabis education (1). The campaign will utilize high-traffic placements and various digital technology methods. The campaign began on April 17, 2025, and “features high-visibility media placements and strategically located QR code decals in dispensaries, transit hubs, SUNY and CUNY campuses, and New York State visitor centers,” (1). OCM plans to use these resources to help lead consumers to their library filled with educational materials covering topics on responsible consumption, cannabis safety, and legal use.

The hope of using all of these different types of methods is to help provide more accessible options. Consumers will be able to learn wherever they are, The call to action for the campaign is “Learn more about NY cannabis”. With the educational resources from OCM, consumers will be more informed on navigating the state’s cannabis marketplace. As mentioned in the press release (1), “The campaign provides essential information on best practices for safer use and storage, breaks down the wide array of today’s cannabis products, and helps consumer understand purchasing guidelines.” QR code decals will bring users to OCM’s webpage. From there, they will be able to access OCM’s library of educational content. Additionally, they will be able to request free printed materials to be delivered to them.

“Public education is a key pillar of a well-regulated cannabis market,” Felicia A.B. Reid, Acting Executive Director of The New York State Office of Cannabis Management, said (1). “Through the ‘Higher Education’ campaign, we’re ensuring that New Yorkers have access to reliable information about cannabis safety, legal use, and responsible consumption. By making these resources widely available, we are empowering New Yorkers to make informed choices while strengthening the integrity of New York’s industry.”

“We know that education is one of the most powerful tools we have to promote public health and safety. This campaign delivers real-time, trusted cannabis information directly into people’s hands—literally,” Lyla Hunt, Deputy Director of Public Health and Education at The New York State Office of Cannabis Management, commented (1). “Whether you’re on a campus, in a dispensary, or passing through a transit station, our goal is to meet you where you are with information that can make a real difference.”
