The owner and two biologists at Royal Queen Seeds recently presented their F1 hybrid process and strains in Barcelona, Spain.
On March 10, 2023 Royal Queen Seeds (RQS), a seed bank in Europe, presented their newly released F1 hybrid varieties to growers, journalists, and others in the cannabis industry at the Hotel Novotel in Cornellà near Spannabis—the largest annual cannabis fair in the world (1).
One of the owners, Shai Ramsahai, introduced the company and its journey, then biologist Maikel de Bresser explained the process involved in creating F1 hybrids—from selecting desirable parent material to developing inbred lines (IBLs). Plant geneticist Andreu Francés explained the research involved in the project and the results the team have achieved, highlighting the new eight F1s he helped develop, including: Medusa F1, Orion F1, and Milky Way F1, which are all autoflowering varieties.
RQS recently expanded into the US and Thailand and now supply cannabis genetics worldwide.

Ep 24, Part III: Data Transparency in Cannabis Testing with Yasha Kahn
December 26th 2024In the final part of this episode, Evan Friedmann and Yasha Kahn discuss the need for a national entity to centralize cannabis data collection, moving from snapshot data to continuous updates. They emphasize the importance of accurate lab data and adverse event tracking, suggesting QR codes on packaging to report issues. Yasha suggests harsher consequences for result manipulation and suggests collaboration between state departments and federal entities to support underfunded regulators. They also discuss the potential benefits of off-the-shelf testing and the importance of stability testing. Finally, Yasha shares his top three reading recommendations for the audience.
