Cannabis Patient Care™ will launch in November with a first-issue focus on how medical cannabis is helping veterans with PTSD
Cannabis Science and Technology® is excited to announce a new sister publication, Cannabis Patient Care™, dedicated to medical cannabis coverage.
Each issue of Cannabis Patient Care™ will focus on a single disease or ailment for which medical cannabis has proven effective for treating and provide research, patient stories and insights from medical professionals to further educate the medical cannabis community.
“Cannabis Science and Technology® has established itself as a thought leader in the cannabis industry by delivering accurate and relevant scientific information to the community,” said Mike Hennessy Jr., president and CEO of MJH Life Sciences™, the parent company of Cannabis Science and Technology®. “As we strive to grow that brand, we continue to look for opportunities to educate the cannabis community in new ways, and Cannabis Patient Care™ will be the next chapter in our success by educating health care providers and improving patients’ lives.”
The first edition of Cannabis Patient Care™ focuses on veterans using medical cannabis to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It was created in partnership with Dr. Marion McNabb, president of Cannabis Center of Excellence, INC.; Ann M. Brum, founder and CEO of Joint Venture & Co.; and Stephen Mandile, veteran, cannabis patient and advocate — who together conducted the 2019 Veterans Health and Medical Cannabis Study to raise awareness and help change policy surrounding veteran access to medical cannabis in Massachusetts.
In this first issue of Cannabis Patient Care™, McNabb highlights some of their data and insights, Brum details her story as an advocate for veteran access and Mandile shares his personal story as a veteran patient. The issue also features an interview with Dr. Staci Gruber, the director of Marijuana Investigations for Neuroscientific Discovery (MIND) at McLean Hospital who's been studying the impact of cannabis on the brain for more than two decades, as well as conversations with a hospice nurse who works with veterans, a Veterans Affairs caregiver and a veteran advocate.
“This research study examined the use of medical cannabis among U.S. military veterans and found cannabis is most commonly used to address PTSD, chronic pain, anxiety, and depression,” said McNabb. “In our sample, 76% of veterans report actively using cannabis to replace or reduce the use of over the counter or prescription medications. Given the self-reported benefits of using medical cannabis among veterans, further inquiry into the benefits and risks of use for specific health conditions and symptoms should be prioritized.”
To complement the publication launch, Cannabis Science and Technology® and Cannabis Patient Care™ will host a free Veterans Day webinar on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. EST titled, “From Post-Traumatic Stress to Post-Traumatic Growth: How Medical Cannabis Is Helping Veterans with PTSD.” For more information and to register for the webinar, click here.
Cannabis Patient Care™ will donate a portion of its first-edition proceeds to TAPS.org, a national nonprofit 501(c)3 veterans service organization that provides comfort, care and resources to all those grieving the death of a military loved one. To donate, visit https://taps.revv.co/cst.

Ep 24, Part I: Data Transparency in Cannabis Testing with Yasha Khan
November 21st 2024Evan Friedmann interviews Yasha Khan, co-founder of MCR Labs, about his journey into the cannabis industry and his efforts to promote transparency and integrity in laboratory practices. Yasha discusses the origins of MCR Labs, which began in Massachusetts to meet the needs of the soon-to-be legal medical cannabis market. He explains the challenges faced, including result manipulation by labs and the impact on public health. Yasha's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) project aimed to gather testing data from 37 states, revealed significant discrepancies in potency and mold results. Despite some states' reluctance to share data, Yasha has made much of this data public, leading to collaborative research and publications on various aspects of cannabis testing.
