A new survey is highlighting data that is showing an increase in Americans interested in using cannabis during the 2023 holiday season.
A recent press release (1) disclosed that a survey performed by Wired Research on behalf of Oak PR, a communications business, showed that more Americans are now looking to receive cannabis as a gift for the holidays. The survey detailed that 1 in 4 Americans would prefer cannabis gifts instead of something else, for example, alcohol (1). It was estimated that around 63% of Americans who participated in the survey were planning to involve cannabis in their 2023 holiday festivities.
A new trend among Gen Z and Millennials observed in the survey (1) showed that younger generations were beginning to steer clear of traditional gifts, such as alcohol, and more interested in receiving the gift of cannabis as a present.
The survey detailed the attraction of gifting cannabis (1):
"The results of the survey are both eye-opening and somewhat expected when you consider the growth of legal cannabis in the U.S. and people are always looking for new and interesting gift options," Drew Tybus, Oak PR CEO mentioned (1). "With more states across the country now offering some form of legal cannabis to Americans than ever before, people have a choice of how they want to celebrate, have fun, and give gifts that people will be excited about. We see the most interesting trend being the correlation between younger Americans (Gen Z and Millennials) - many of whom are now parents themselves - considering cannabis their preferred choice over alcohol this holiday season. Being a parent during the holidays can be extra stressful, and cannabis can be an excellent option when it comes to relaxing."

Ep 24, Part I: Data Transparency in Cannabis Testing with Yasha Khan
November 21st 2024Evan Friedmann interviews Yasha Khan, co-founder of MCR Labs, about his journey into the cannabis industry and his efforts to promote transparency and integrity in laboratory practices. Yasha discusses the origins of MCR Labs, which began in Massachusetts to meet the needs of the soon-to-be legal medical cannabis market. He explains the challenges faced, including result manipulation by labs and the impact on public health. Yasha's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) project aimed to gather testing data from 37 states, revealed significant discrepancies in potency and mold results. Despite some states' reluctance to share data, Yasha has made much of this data public, leading to collaborative research and publications on various aspects of cannabis testing.
